I was in Lagos, Nigeria briefly, and I must say Lagos is growing, and in my usual fashion I checked out some cool spots.
I'm happy about this as I remember a few years back in Lagos there weren't places where you could shop designer pieces, though it isn't on the level of London or Paris we are at least starting to understand high-end Fashion retail.
Nigerians in general, we love to shop and it's no secret we do most of our designer shopping abroad in places like Harrods, Selfridges and Oxford street in London.
But they now have the capability to shop some of our favorite pieces locally, Being the fashionista, (I don’t like using that term for myself ), I decided to check out some places and see for myself.
It's essentially an upcoming skate shop, they sell Printed T-shirts and shirts as well as a few pieces of hats, spoke with the owner Jomi and he said they were in talks with Vans to become a distributor in Lagos. So very soon you'll be able to shop authentic van pieces! Nicey!
A concept store designed in 2015 by architect David Adjaye. Alara stocks both male and female designer pieces from Christian Louboutin to Dries Van and Laurence Airline as well as a few other African Designers. They also stock home pieces as well as other accessories. If you’re feeling hungry you can stop by NOK by Alara a contemporary African restaurant located in the same building as ALARA. I can bet you their kelewele would be irresistible.
This is another concept store I very much like. It is like Colette or Dover Street Market to me, but they stock more of women's wear than men's wear. It's a two storey building located at 21, Amodu Tijani Close, Victoria Island, Lagos. The downstairs is home to Home accessories as well as arts and design pieces. Upstairs is where the fashion happens both men's and womens designer pieces.
Owned by my friend Bubu Ogusi, She stocks contemporary womenswear from her collection as well as accessories from other African designers.
These are just a few of some more places to shop in Lagos, I’ll be writing more series on cool places to shop in Lagos in the future as I discover them. If you're in Lagos please check out these stores and let me know your thoughts
